The platform will form indigenous criteria for human rights practices, taking into account the realities of majority world countries. It will champion principles of democracy, give voice to people at grassroots levels and address social inequalities and domination at national and international levels. The site has been redesigned and the new editor Sameera Huque is looking for volunteers. Please contact her directly at Sameera@bd.drik.net One of the new features in Banglarights is the media overview, which currently lists the recent attack on Dr. Humayun Azad: Writer and professor of Bangla at the Dhaka University, Dr. Humayun Azad, was critically injured in a knife attack on the campus on 27 February. Dr Azad, 57, is struggling for life at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka. The attack on this often controversial and well-known literary figure comes after a group called for his arrest and trial on 12 December, for views expressed in his new novel Pak Sar Zamin Sad Bad. An MP of Jamaat e Islami, on 25 January, also demanded in parliament the introduction of a blasphemy act to block publication of such books. www.banglarights.net -- Shahidul Alam Drik Picture Library Ltd. www.drik.net subscribe to my newsletter at: http://www.isp.drik.net/mailman/listinfo/shahidulnews
